I am a newly enrolled Master's student in the Carpenter Lab at the Romberg Tiburon Center for Environmental Studies at San Francisco State University. My passion for the ocean began with my upbringing in beautiful Puerto Rico. I pursued my Bachelor's of Science in Oceanography at Humboldt State University located in the heart of pristine coastline of Northern California.
My admiration of coastal environments led me to my current endeavor to study microbial processes in salt marsh sediments of the San Francisco Bay Estuary. I seek to determine the diversity and distribution of microbes that are able to produce bioavailable nitrogen from inert nitrogen gas. My research will focus on the effects that sea level rise may have on the these microbes and their relationships with salt marsh vegetation.
